Why Brushing Buddies Works (and How to Get Started)
Share
Every parent has experienced the struggle of asking your toddler to brush their teeth. Wiggling, whining, negotiating. It’s a nightly ritual in many households.
I created Brushing Buddies to turn brushing battles into joyful moments. With Brushing Buddies, you’re not just brushing, you’re building a routine kids actually enjoy.
It’s simple.
It’s fun.
And it works.
Why It Works
Brushing Buddies combines storytelling, music, and routine. These three elements are proven to help children stay engaged and build healthy habits. By blending visual, auditory, and tactile experiences, the book transforms a chore into a moment of connection and play.
✅ Storytime + brushing time = one smooth routine.
🎶 Music keeps kids focused and makes brushing feel like a game.
🪥 A familiar story builds comfort and predictability.
💪 Positive reinforcement (like sticker charts) turns brushing into a habit, not a fight.
How to Use the Book
1. Turn the Book On
There’s a simple on/off switch on the back. Flip it on, and you’re ready to start brushing.
2. Pick Your Story — Morning or Evening
The book has two stories, one for the morning and one for the evening, to help kids learn to brush twice a day. Choose whichever fits your routine.
3. Read Together and Explore
Read the story aloud with your child. Many families like to pause on each page to spot the toothbrush in the illustrations and talk about the scene. This builds excitement and focus before brushing begins.
4. Brush and Sing
When the story ends, press the sound button to play the “ahhh” song. As your child sings along, they naturally keep their mouth open — making it easy for you to brush thoroughly and stress-free.
It turns brushing into a game, not a battle.
5. Choose Your Spot
You’re not stuck at the sink. The book stands easily on its own, or your child can hold it.
✅ At the sink
✅ On the couch
✅ In bed before lights out
6. Reward and Repeat
If you’re using the sticker chart, add a sticker after each brushing session. This simple reward system builds positive reinforcement — and kids love it.
